Dunwoody

CULTURAL, FAMILY FRIENDLY, AND EVENTFUL

Dunwoody, part of DeKalb County, has a calm and inviting vibe and is located just 10 miles north of downtown Atlanta. As one of the metro area’s oldest suburbs, Dunwoody continues to grow and attract new residents as well as curious visitors. In fact, don’t be surprised to hear locals refer to the city as “Funwoody” — there are good reasons galore for this humorous nickname.

For one thing, Dunwoody is well-known for keeping its residents active. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the Nature Center, a peaceful retreat in the middle of town with a playground, hammocks and plenty of green space, all free of charge. Or challenge your family with the Treetop Quest, featuring zipline heights more than 50 feet off the ground!

For arts and culture buffs, attractions such as the Center for Puppetry Arts and the High Museum of Art are right in the heart of Dunwoody, and the Stage Door Players, the nonprofit theater troupe of the city, is beloved for quirky performances. World-class shopping, including Perimeter Mall, and plenty of delicious restaurants will complete your perfect day or evening in Dunwoody.

Regular annual events that locals and visitors enjoy in Dunwoody include the Apple Cider Days and Lemonade Days — two family-friendly festivals with food and fun — plus the Butterfly Festival, the rare chance to get up close with a colorful collection of flutterbys.

Some of Dunwoody’s oldest neighborhoods go back as far as 50 years, and continue to entice buyers with their large lots and spacious, well-constructed homes. In recent years, the development of high-density apartments and condominiums, cluster homes, and urban live/work/play residential options complement these older neighborhoods and offer an abundance of diverse, appealing lifestyles. In other words, you certainly won’t lack options in Dunwoody, no matter what your passion is!
